What is refractive lens exchange?
Refractive lens exchange—also called lens replacement surgery or clear lens exchange—replaces the eye’s natural lens with an artificial intraocular lens selected for your vision.
It uses essentially the same surgical technique as cataract surgery. With RLE, however, the lens is replaced primarily to correct vision, even when there is no visually significant cataract.

Choosing the right replacement lens
No single lens is best for everyone. Your recommendation will reflect your eye health, measurements and priorities.
Monofocal
Usually focused at one chosen distance. Glasses are normally required for other distances.
Toric
Designed to correct regular corneal astigmatism as well as the chosen focal target.
Extended depth of focus
Designed to provide an extended range of vision, often including distance and intermediate tasks.
Multifocal or trifocal
Designed for several distances, with possible trade-offs such as halos, glare or reduced contrast.
