PATIENT JOURNEY
What to Expect?
Understanding eyelid surgery can help ease any anxieties.
Here's a brief overview of what you can expect:
Step 1
Consultation
✔ Personalised plan
✔ Clear pricing
✔ Confirmed surgery date
Your journey starts with a detailed consultation with one of our consultant oculoplastic surgeons. We'll discuss your symptoms and lifestyle needs, and create a personalised treatment plan.
Step 2
The Procedure
✔ In -house Surgical Suite
✔ Day Case
✔ Local Anaesthetic
For an upper eyelid lift, a fine incision is made in the eyelid's natural crease to remove excess skin and fat. For a lower eyelid lift, the incision is made just below the lash line or inside the eyelid to address under-eye bags. The incisions are then closed with fine stitches, carefully placed to hide any potential scarring.
Step 3
Aftercare
✔ Follow up
✔ Emergency Phone Number
It is normal to have some bruising and swelling for the first one to two weeks. Dissolvable stitches are used, so there's no need for them to be removed. Our team will provide detailed aftercare instructions on how to gently clean the area and use any prescribed ointment. While you can usually return to light daily activities within a few days, it's essential to avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for several weeks to ensure a smooth and optimal healing process.
OCULOPLASTIC EXPERTISE
Why Choose an Oculoplastic Specialist for Your Blepharoplasty?
Your eyes are your most delicate feature. While general plastic surgeons operate on the whole body, our Consultants are Oculoplastic Surgeons, specialists who have dedicated their entire careers to the anatomy of the eye and eyelids.
✔ Dedicated Eyelid Specialisation
We specialise exclusively in the delicate anatomy of the eyelids, tear ducts, and orbit. Our practice volume in this specific region is unmatched by other surgeons.
✔ Microsurgical Precision
Training in fine eye surgery provides a superior precision and delicate touch, resulting in minimal scarring and more natural, subtle aesthetic outcomes.
✔ Functional & Aesthetic Focus
We don't just correct cosmetic issues; we ensure the surgery enhances or preserves vital eye function (e.g., tear drainage and full eye closure).

FAQs About Blepharoplasty Surgery.
Here are some of the most common questions our patients ask about Blepharoplasty surgery. If you have a question not listed here, please don't hesitate to contact our team.
-
An oculoplastic surgeon is a medical doctor who has specialised in both ophthalmology (the medical and surgical care of the eyes) and plastic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids and the surrounding facial area. They are first and foremost eye doctors, meaning they have a deep and intricate understanding of the eye's anatomy, function, and health. This dual expertise makes them uniquely qualified to perform surgery on the eyelids.
-
While general plastic surgeons are highly skilled professionals, their expertise covers a wide range of procedures across the entire body (e.g., breast augmentation, tummy tucks). An oculoplastic surgeon, in contrast, has dedicated their entire career to the eyes and the areas immediately surrounding them. This narrow focus means they have a greater depth of experience and a higher volume of cases involving the eyelids, giving them a level of precision and expertise that is invaluable for this specific surgery.
-
Dermatochalasis is the medical term for the excess, drooping skin of the eyelids. In layman's terms, it's what people refer to as 'hooded eyelids', 'droopy eyelids', or 'baggy eyelids'. If you have excess skin that folds over your upper eyelid crease or if you have noticeable puffiness and bags under your eyes, you may have dermatochalasis. A consultation with our surgeons at The Eye Clinic, Kelsall Surgical Centre, is the best way to determine if blepharoplasty is the right treatment for you.
-
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to address sagging or drooping eyelids, often referred to as an eyelid lift. It is suitable for individuals with excess skin, fat, or muscle on their upper or lower eyelids that makes them look tired, older, or, in some cases, can even obstruct their vision. Our patients at Kelsall Surgical Centre typically seek this procedure to achieve a more rested and youthful appearance.
-
An upper eyelid blepharoplasty is performed to remove the excess skin and fat that causes 'hooded' or drooping upper eyelids. This can help to improve vision and create a more defined eyelid crease. A lower eyelid blepharoplasty, on the other hand, focuses on removing or repositioning the fatty 'bags' and excess, crepey skin under the eyes, which results in a smoother and more youthful contour.
-
Recovery from blepharoplasty is a gradual process. You can expect some swelling and bruising for the first one to two weeks, which will gradually subside. Most patients are able to return to their normal daily activities within 7-10 days, though more strenuous exercise should be avoided for a few weeks. Our team at Kelsall Surgical Centre provides detailed aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth and comfortable recovery.
-
The cost of blepharoplasty can vary depending on whether you are having an upper, lower, or combined procedure.
